Free tablets available for deserving students

Amira Aisya will contribute her February assemblyman’s salary to fund the “This is IT” initiative.

STUDENTS from underprivileged families in the Puteri Wangsa constituency are encouraged to apply for a free tablet device under the ‘This is IT’ initiative.

Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, who introduced the programme, will also be contributing her salary this month to fund the initiative.

“Education is something very close to my heart.

“Since I will be spending a month in the United States to undergo the International Visitor Leadership Programme under the invitation of the US embassy, I do not feel comfortable accepting this month’s salary.

“After discussing with my team, we decided to create an initiative to assist and empower the underprivileged students of Puteri Wangsa.

“Since the programme is still new and the number of tablet devices is limited, we will be giving priority to students pursuing technical and vocational education and training as a start,” she said.

The free tablet scheme is for Malaysians aged 16 to 19 with a parent who is a Puteri Wangsa voter and also has a household income below RM3,000.

Amira Aisya urged those interested to apply via https://tinyurl.com/applyTab before the Feb 22 deadline.

Those interested to know more can contact her service centre hotline at 014-914 1481.
