SMK St Elizabeth’s academic excellence and impressive co-curriculum are due to the strong support of its administration, teachers, students’ association and parent-teacher association (PTA).
The school’s board chairman Bishop Joseph Hii said that all of them including the principal and non-teaching staff contributed in one way or another to the school’s success.
“Our school has a healthy community. We have each other’s support for academics and co-curriculum activities including sports,” said Hii during the school’s annual prize-giving day in Sibu, Sarawak.
It was due to such help that the school was able to come out tops in the 2021 SPM exam, he said.
Hii added that he wanted all students and teachers to stay healthy not just physically but also mentally, spiritually and psychologically.
“Your good results are not only your own doing but due to the good community you belong to,” he told students.
He also gave credit to current principal Chee Hue Yiang and her predecessor Clement Chieng.
Chee thanked sponsors, the association and PTA for their help in making the prize-giving day a success.
Among the sponsors were Dr Teh Lee Gek who sponsored prizes including the Dr Teh Kok Chiang Award in memory of his late father, former student Mary Winifred Yii and Patrick Yii.
“Without your continuous efforts, we would not have achieved anything,” she said.
The ceremony saw Teoh Yi Huan receiving the Dr Teh Kok Chiang Award for her many accomplishments.
They included being named the 22nd International Chinese Student Essay competition champion, Sarawak Girlscode competition 2022 champion, Sibu District Inter-school Public Speaking Contest 2022 champion and champion in the inter-team Sibu district Tan Sri Datuk Panglima Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad English Language Debate 2022.
Meanwhile, The Best SPM Scorer 2021 awards went to Angelina Lim Zhiun Joo, Iris Lee Sin Ing and Annie Yong Qiao Ing who each scored 9A+ and 2As.
