Sibu eateries support Menu Rahmah initiative for needy

MENU Rahmah will soon be available in Sibu, Sarawak, for the B40 community to enjoy a meal at RM5.

Sibu Coffeeshop and Restaurant Owners Association chairman Tong Ing Kok (pic) said a Chinese community association would kick-start the initiative soon.

“The association has come to us for assistance.

“We will give them ideas on how to go about offering the meal.

“I believe more associations or eateries will follow suit,” he said.

Most eateries in Sibu, said Tong, had indicated their support for the Menu Rahmah.

“Food operators here have no problem in implementing Menu Rahmah as food ingredients here are cheaper than elsewhere.

“Even before this initiative was introduced, a number of eateries have been selling economy rice at RM5,” he noted.

A typical meal in Sibu, he said, consisted of two meat dishes, two vegetables and rice at RM5.

“The association has approached us on the matter and we are assisting them.

“There is also an eatery, which is not our member, selling Menu Rahmah at RM4,” he added.

“We can do this for a longer term as RM5 is manageable,” said Tong.

He added that in Sibu, nasi lemak could be had for cheaper than RM5. — By ANDY CHUA
