THE Grand Imperial Group rewarded its staff with more than RM100,000 in cash and overseas holidays for their outstanding performance in boosting restaurant sales.

After witnessing the business at the brink of collapse due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some 500 staff members celebrated the group’s comeback during its annual dinner held at the Grand Imperial restaurant in Sunway Velocity, Cheras.

Eight out of its nine outlets that attained their targets received up to RM15,000 cash each.

Thirty staff members from management and the kitchen were selected for an all-expense-paid trip to Hokkaido, Japan, next month.

Its managing director Datuk Wong Nam Loong said business was thriving and all its restaurants were doing well.

“In the past three years, there were no annual dinner, bonus or increment.

“We were barely surviving. It is a miracle that we survived.

“Tonight is a cause for celebration, to thank everybody who brought us back to our former glory. We look forward to good times for the rest of the year,” he said at a press conference before the dinner.

Wong said a new management led by him took over operations on Jan 1 last year, with new development plans.

After the takeover, he said the company renovated its restaurant in Bangsar Shopping Centre and opened a new one in Genting Highlands.

“Another restaurant is under construction at Setia City Mall. It is scheduled to open sometime this year,” he said.

Also in attendance were the company’s business associates, suppliers and supporters.

Wong was accompanied by his wife Datin Jenny Cheong, son and Grand Imperial Group director Joshua, daughter-in-law Chan Suet Lyn and project director TC Yeoh.

There was also a lucky draw offering prizes such as hampers, luggage bags and cash worth between RM100 and RM3,000.

Long-serving staff members were also shown appreciation.

The group’s 38 foreign workers who have worked for more than five years received RM500 each, while 15 Malaysians who have worked for more than eight years were awarded RM1,000 each.

Six employees who have worked with the group for over a decade were given a gold medal each.

All were treated to a sumptuous meal and entertained by a live band and special Chinese face-changing dance performance, in addition to receiving ang pow.
