A HOUSEWIFE with a knack for photography won an all-expense paid trip for two to the Battersea Power Station, a photogenic landmark in London, United Kingdom.

Hwong Chang Ching, 46, from Puchong, Selangor beat some 4,000 contestants in the Sime Darby Property Capture 8 photo contest that was held between April 8 and Dec 7 last year.

Hwong, a mother of two, said she often carried a camera when she was out with her family.

“I have two daughters. I love dressing them up and taking photos of them.

“I have joined many photo contests before and have won prizes, too, but this is my biggest win to date,” she said.

Hwong said she took the winning photo at The Glades in Putra Heights.

“I went to the site four times. The winning shot was taken during my second trip.

“My first trip was to survey the area for photo opportunities and to get ideas.

“During my second trip, I decided to dress my younger daughter in a red dress and gave her a red balloon as a prop.

“At the chosen spot, I asked her to jump and she did it so gracefully,” she said after the prize-giving ceremony at Serenity Park in Sepang, Selangor.

Hwong said she planned to make the trip to London with her husband and save up to bring her children along.

The photo contest was a marketing campaign by Sime Darby Property, in collaboration with Canon Malaysia.

Contestants were required to submit photos centred around the themes of nature, culture and leisure at any of the eight Sime Darby Property townships.

Some RM288,888 worth of prizes were given away including Canon DSLR cameras, Canon printers, DJI drones and cash prizes, to 164 winners.

Judges included professional photographer and Canon ambassador Bonnie Yap, and renowned digital content creator Mohd Shahril Fawzy Suhaili, better known as Pojie.

Sime Darby Property group managing director Datuk Azmir Merican said, “We wanted people to experience the environment and capture the beauty of our townships.

“We also wanted to provide a platform for photographers to showcase their talents.”

Azmir said placemaking features were crucial in bringing life to a community.

Also present was Canon Malaysia camera division head Hunter Zhang.
