TWO recycling centres (buy-back centres) in Kuala Lumpur have been upgraded as Drive-Through Recycling Centres (DTRCs).
They are located at Jalan Tiong Nam Mustering Point and Jalan Bunus 6 Mustering Point.
SWCorp Malaysia deputy chief executive officer (technical) Zulkifli Tamby Chik launched both DTRCs in an event organised by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd.
“One of the initiatives of the Local Government Development Ministry’s 100 Days plan is the setting up of 30 DTRCs in all states,” Zulkifli said.
“There will be three DTRCs in the Federal Territory, with two in Kuala Lumpur and one in Putrajaya.
“Through recycling, the community can play an active role in helping preserve the environment.”
SWCorp Federal Territory director Ummi Kalthum Shuib said the agency was hoping for more commitment from residents in neighbourhoods to actively recycle.
“Residents can drive through to send in their recyclables, weigh the items and receive cash in return.
“This is a great way to attract and engage more people to recycle,” she said.
Zulkifli added that the national recycling rate reached 33.17% in 2022 which was better than the initial target of 32.5%, and that SWCorp was investing efforts to increase the rate to 40% by 2025.
SWCorp has also launched its Mega Trash-to-Cash Programme and is accepting used clothes until March 7 at its Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya locations.
“Residents can sell their recyclable goods from 10am to 5pm at the Alam Flora store, Jalan San Peng, Kuala Lumpur, and at the Buy-Back Centre, Precinct 9, Putrajaya.
Ummi Kalthum said SWCorp also welcomed private collaborations to establish more DTRCs in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
