Hubby of housewives’ scheme contributor gets aid after her death

Nira receiving the aid from Lau while Undong (second from right) looks on.

DORDAI Sandom was one of 4,088 in Sibu, Sarawak, who signed up for the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) in December last year.

She passed away on Jan 3. As she had registered with the scheme, her husband Jeffery Nira is entitled to a monthly pension of RM300.

He will receive the payment until he turns 55.

Nira also received RM2,000 as funeral aid.

Sandom is the first contributor of SKSSR in Sibu to have passed away.

Nira was among three residents of a longhouse, Rumah Kiding in Nanga Salim, to receive benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Socso). Socso oversees SKSSR.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau handed over the benefits.

The other two recipients were Patrick Kiding, 27, and the family of the late Edward Bayum Bagat, 23.

Kiding, an accounts clerk at a cafe in Bintulu, sustained a leg fracture after slipping at his workplace.

He was given temporary physical disability benefits and sick leave allowance.

Bayum was a general worker in a plumbing company and was working at a new housing project on Oct 4 last year when he died of electrocution.

His family members received RM2,000 as funeral aid and are also entitled to compensation as his next-of-kin.

Lau called on more housewives to register for SKSSR as it provides protection against any eventuality.

“A lot of housewives are still in the dark about SKSSR, which can help protect them,” she said.

The Lanang MP said applicants for the scheme only had to pay RM120 a year to enjoy the benefits.

Also present at the handing over of aid were Sibu Socso manager Dundang Undong and his deputy Michael Blayong.
