PLUS: No more non-peak hour toll fares at Second Link

THERE will be no more reduced toll fare for those travelling on the Second Link to and from Singapore via the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza from this month.

In a statement, PLUS Malaysia Bhd said non-peak hours’ fare was introduced in 2018 to encourage more road users to go through the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza when entering and exiting Singapore.

“However, after five years of implementation, we did not notice a lot of changes in the traffic flow,” said the statement.

“Based on our records, the daily toll usage is more or less similar to the number of vehicles that passed through the toll plaza before the non-peak fare was introduced.

‘There was no drastic jump in traffic.

“Our traffic data also showed that more than 50% of those who enjoyed the non-peak fare were Singapore-registered vehicles.

“As such, the fare for all vehicles that pass through the toll plaza will be synchronised across the board.

“Starting March 1, there will no longer be non-peak toll fares and the charges will be the same throughout the day, which is what motorists have been paying during peak hours,” said the PLUS statement.

The current toll rates are: RM6.14 for cars (Class 1), RM17.10 for vehicles with two axles and five or six wheels excluding buses (Class 2), RM34.50 for vehicles with three or more axles (Class 3), RM4.67 for taxis (Class 4 and RM7.45 for buses (Class 5).
