Grill-and-gin bar opens in the heart of KL


The beverage menu at Bara On Six features over 35 selections of gin and a wine list that is curated to complement the food.

A NEW grill-and-gin bar located in Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, is set to blaze a trail as it opens its doors today.

The open-concept, contemporary dining venue Bara on Six offers premium cuts of in-house dry-aged steak, freshly shucked oysters, locally sourced caviar and artisanal craft gin.

Its expansive beverage menu features over 35 selections of gin from around the world and a wine list that is curated as recommendations to complement each item on the food menu.

“We are excited to bring our passion for quality and service into the city, and that is what we had in mind when Bara on Six was conceptualised,” said hotel general manager Daniel Kaeflein.

“Our main goal is to bring forward a venue that is casual yet sophisticated and a menu that focuses on the intricate flavours of Malaysia,” he elaborated.

In line with the “Rooted in Nature” initiative by the Shangri-La Group (of which Traders Hotel is a brand), Bara on Six also focuses on sourcing sustainably.

A large portion of the menu features ingredients that are sourced from within the country to not only help reduce carbon footprint but also support local agricultural and fishing communities.

“Given the abundance of high-quality ingredients that can be found within Malaysia, incorporating locally sourced ingredients into the menu is not as difficult as many would think,” said executive chef Unaver Unabia.

“For instance, the kale in our kale salad is sourced from SunwayX, a vertical hydroponic farm in Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

“Our poultry is delivered from a free-range farm in Tapah, Perak, and even the cacao and coffee beans used in our desserts are respectively from Pahang and Sungai Pelek in Selangor,” said Unabia.

Bara on Six also offers alternative dietary options.

The menu features a series of vegan options as well as a variety of non-dairy, low calorie and low sugar or sugar-free desserts.

Bara on Six is located on Level 6 of the hotel and is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, from noon to 2.30pm for lunch and from 6.30pm to 10.30pm for dinner.

The gin bar opens from 6pm to midnight.
