FAMILY-RUN Eighteen Cafe in Rimbun Amverton, Section 32 in Shah Alam, is located beside the Bukit Kemuning Golf and Country Resort, Selangor.

Cafe manager Melfrisca Maideh said the eatery initially started as a bakery but was later converted into a cafe.

It serves brunch as well as lunch and is open until 5pm.

“Brunch is our customers’ favourite as we serve a line-up of dishes such as Shrimp Avo Sammie and Big Brekkie.

“For those with a sweet tooth, the Merry Berry is a must-try,” said Maideh.

The Shrimp Avo Sammie has large, succulent and crunchy grilled prawns placed on a generous spread of mashed avocado with parsley tartar spiced up with sriracha sauce on buttered house-made brioche.

The Big Brekkie consists of bratwurst, streaky bacon, sautéed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and scrambled eggs.

The Merry Berry is prepared with an assorted mix of berries which consists of blueberries, black berries and strawberries (based on availability) served over the cafe’s house-made brioche.

This dish is a colourful feast for the eyes too, and the tanginess from the berries makes it even more enjoyable.

Brioches are made daily and the recipe has been perfected after months of trial and error by the cafe owner’s wife, said Maideh.

Pasta lovers will enjoy the cafe’s carbonara that is rich and satisfying.

The ingredients used are fresh and that adds to the quality of the food served here.

The cafe also makes its own jams.

In general, food portions are large, which makes sharing of dishes ideal.

“We are very conscious of the quality of our food,” said Maideh.

“We put in a lot of effort to ensure our guests enjoy a pleasant dining experience.

“The owner and his family members help out in the restaurant and also dine here.

“They are passionate about the cafe business and want to give their best to customers.

“The owner’s wife is often in the kitchen to ensure the food is at its best.

“The owner drops by too and serves guests,” added Maideh.

Also on the menu is affogato, a shot of espresso served with a scoop of ice cream.

This is a perfect way to end the meal, especially for coffee lovers and those with a sweet tooth.

Overall, the French-inspired cafe with its black-and-white interior is a nice place to catch up with friends or meet business associates.

The pet-friendly cafe also allows diners to bring their animals along to the open-air dining area at the corner of the cafe.

Birthday parties and small-scale private events are usually hosted in this space.
