Seductive speakeasy woos hearts with crafted cocktails


Woobar is a chic watering hole in Kuala Lumpur.

Located at W Kuala Lumpur, Woobar is an urban, chic and provocative venue.

Described as the seductive and vibrant heart of the hotel, it is a place to discover the art of cocktails and where endless evenings leave you wanting more.

This bar with a difference sits on the eighth floor of the hotel, adjoining Flock restaurant.

Open from 10am, the watering hole is a hotspot in the evenings, especially during weekends.

After 11pm, you can head up to its sister establishment WET Deck on the 12th floor for more night entertainment till late hours.

Owned and run by W Kuala Lumpur, it’s not the only one that carries the name Woobar in the world. A fair number of the hotels under the W chain have one; the name does have a registration trademark attached to it.

The bar here is elongated on the left as you walk in, with lush lounge seating to the right, plus the entertainment and a more intimate alcove at the end.

Packed with the sass of a speakeasy, it serves as a charming rendezvous spot during the day for high tea between 3pm and 5pm.

In the evening, it turns into a hip setting for crafted cocktails and music entertainment.

Afternoons on weekdays and weekends is a good time for afternoon tea accompanied by expertly crafted cocktails.

TEAssentials is its collaboration with multi-label beauty retailer escentials.

The curated afternoon tea features captivating scents in floral, citrusy and aromatic notes.

The wine menu is pretty extensive, with sommelier selections that include Pinot Grigio Masio Masianco white, Voga Prosecco Doc Spumante sparkling and Penfold Max Cabernet Sauvignon red just the tip of the iceberg of dozens of wine and champagne on offer.

Cocktails on offer range from the nostalgic appeal of classics such as Negroni, Old Fashioned, Hemingway Daiquiri and Jungle Bird to lesser-known mixes such as Long Drive Home.

You can also get any other classic cocktail whipped up on request.

International tapas bites spice up the food menu, with examples including Karuga and Angus Sliders, Seasonal Premium Oysters, a vegetarian Burrata Pizza and Charcuterie.

Activity-wise, weekends are when it picks up as music entertainment takes centre stage.

The Living Room Live on Saturdays is arguably the biggest attraction.

Recently promoted to a weekly basis; it has been the go-to for many a live act since it began over four years ago.

Dedicated to music lovers, this creates endless opportunities to connect artistes of all genres and backgrounds with their fans all in the comfort of a living room.

It has been billed by some as a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, where guests can enjoy curated cocktails and soulful beats.

“The Living Room Live aims to connect with its audiences to create unexpected interactions.

“The talented local musicians and DJs help to rejuvenate the city’s cultural landscape,” says W Kuala Lumpur resident music curator Victor Goh.

This month sees the likes of Ronnie Jupiter, Russell Curtis Project and Irma Seleman gracing the Living Room stage.

More music accompaniment is provided on Fridays and Saturdays from Bionic (Low & MamaDayo & Miss SS) from 7.30pm, while Saturday and Sunday afternoon teas are accompanied by music by DJ Mie from 3pm to 6pm.
