PATIENTS will soon be able to enjoy better healthcare when visiting Hospital Segamat now that a new building block has been added.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the new wing at the hospital that catered to residents from Sekijang, Segamat and Labis, would begin operating in phases.

“The new wing is equipped with 37 beds in the emergency and trauma department, four beds for operating, an intensive care unit with 18 beds and high-dependency unit with eight beds.

“It will also have a central sterile supply department plus respiratory and hemodynamics unit.

“I hope the new building can give patients more comfort and better healthcare,” she said after launching the new wing.

Dr Zaliha, who is Sekijang MP, also announced an allocation of RM600,000 to build a carpark at the hospital to address the parking issues faced by healthcare workers, patients and their families.

She thanked the Public Works Department (JKR), local authorities and the ministry for making the new wing a reality.

She added that JKR informed her that the health clinic and the Palong Timur staff quarters in Segamat had been completed and could be utilised soon.

Previously, Johor health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the hospital’s new wing expansion project cost RM75.3mil and construction started in early 2018.

It was delayed due to various factors including the Covid-19 pandemic and changes in government.
