Azmin questions Umno's role in Selangor govt, told to leave it to those concerned

AFTER his proposal to re-elect an Opposition chief was shot down at the Selangor state assembly sitting, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (PN-Bukit Antarabangsa) has now questioned Umno's position in the Selangor state government.

"It is common knowledge that Umno is part of the Federal Government but in Selangor, is it a unity government, Madani government, mixed government or what?" he asked during Wednesday's (March 15) sitting at Bangunan SUK in Shah Alam.

"I pity them (Umno assemblymen).

"The recent appointment of councillors in 12 local authorities did not involve Barisan Nasional and Umno.

"If they are part of the government, where is the respect for the new 'partner'," he said during the debate on the Royal address.

Azmin directed the question to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Sungai Tua), who was not in the hall at the time.

Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin (BN-Sungai Panjang) interjected and said it should be left to those with locus standi to raise the matter.

"I respect Azmin's concerns about the party's position in Selangor but let those such as the current Opposition chief Datuk Rizam Ismail (BN-Sungai Air Tawar) or other Umno members to discuss this and state their stand during this sitting.

"Till then, let this be at status quo," he added.

On Tuesday (March 14), Speaker Ng Suee Lim rejected Azmin's proposal to re-elect an Opposition chief as there was no written notice from Rizam resigning from the position.
