‘Bekok bridge repairs expected to start next month’

REPAIRS on a bridge that collapsed due to the recent floods will only begin next month, says Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong.

He said the Bekok bridge was damaged due to soil erosion after floods hit Segamat on March 1, causing many parts of the district to be underwater.

“The bridge has been closed since then and it remains cordoned off even after floodwaters receded.

“Locals have been asking about the status of the bridge as they use it often to head to and from Bekok.

“I have spoken to the Public Works Department and it will begin the tendering process soon, so the repairs can start on April 5.

“The project is expected to be completed on May 10,” he told StarMetro.

Tan urged road users to be patient and refrain from using the damaged bridge.

“An alternative road is available via the Achi Jaya Plantations Sdn Bhd estate.

“It is slightly further but much safer for road users, while waiting for the damaged bridge to be repaired,” he said.

Johor was hit by floods on March 1 after days of heavy rain.
