SEVERAL Bandar Kinrara 1 residents gathered at Istana Mestika in Shah Alam to submit a memorandum asking for Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to intervene in the proposed construction of the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link).
Bandar Kinrara 1 representative Paveanthen Ramachandran handed the memorandum to Mohd Sulaiman Idris who is the special escort (Pengiring Rapat) to the Raja Muda of Selangor.
Paveanthen, 31, said residents of 50 households signed the memorandum.
“In the memorandum, we expressed our concerns on flooding, poor air quality and noise pollution that may affect us if the project goes ahead,” he said.
Residents of Taman Kinrara and Bukit Kinrara in Puchong held a protest on Saturday reiterating their stand on the elevated highway project.
Say No to PJD Link Highway Kinrara chapter head Dhanaraj Arumugam said Kinrara residents were against the project for the many problems it could bring, including noise and dust pollution, flooding and loss of privacy.Dhanaraj, 42, added that the highway would directly affect houses in Taman Kinrara 2, 3, 4 and 7 as well as Bandar Kinrara 1 and 2.
Paveanthen, who was at the protest, said the project did not take into account environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors and would exacerbate existing issues like floods and greenhouse gas emissions.
Damansara MCA chairman Tan Gim Tuan said public consultation was necessary to gauge residents’ views on the PJD Link project.
Former Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and Selayang MP William Leong were also present.
The fate of the PJD Link remains uncertain as the residents await to see the social impact assessment, traffic impact assessment and environmental impact assessment.
PJD Link is a proposed 34.3km dual-lane tolled elevated expressway connecting Damansara to Bandar Kinrara.
PJD Link representatives, when contacted, did not respond at press time.
