First City University College students gained a valuable opportunity to learn from leaders about environmental advocacy, during a programme at the college in Petaling Jaya.

Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin visited the college to share her thoughts on climate change.

The engagement session also featured a talk on “The Climate and Plant-Based Diet” by renowned Harvard Fellow, bestselling author and content creator Ed Winters (Ed Earthling) who joined the event live from the UK.

In her welcome speech, First City University College vice-chancellor Prof Dr Saw Sor Heoh expressed her gratitude to Jamaliah and programme collaborator SchoolHeroes, according to a press release.

Prof Saw emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for students to interact with experts from various fields.

She said this would provide the youths with insights and perspectives that would help with their personal growth.

In her speech, Jamaliah urged everyone to play a part in addressing climate change, no matter how big or small their contribution might be.

She cited the major floods in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, in 2021 and the Batang Kali landslide as negative consequences of climate change.

The talk by Ed Winters addressed the relationship between climate change and plant-based diets. He is well-known for his engaging debates, speeches and video essays that inspire people to consider more sustainable lifestyle choices.

The university college’s statement said that Jamaliah’s engagement visit and the virtual talk by Winters would inspire and educate the next generation of leaders.
