Tiang says vehicles will be provided to traffic wardens.
SIBU Municipal Council (SMC) will deploy traffic wardens to maintain smooth traffic flow at schools.
Sarawak Deputy Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Minister Michael Tiang said the traffic wardens were currently undergoing training.
Once their training is completed and the equipment available, they will start work.
“We are waiting for the vehicles and other necessary items to arrive.
“As far as I know, Kuching South City Council has 22 traffic wardens but they only have six scooters.
“Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has said the wardens might even have body cameras to use in the future,” he said.
Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, was speaking at the launch of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch annual flag sale in Taman Selera Muhibbah.
He said the traffic wardens were trained by the police.
As for the number of scooters, he said they would be provided based on shift duties.
Separately, Tiang called on the public to support MRCS Sibu annual flag sale as they relied on fundraising to carry out their activities.
MRCS Sibu branch chairman Chua Hiong Kee said they aimed to raise RM30,000 through flag sales this year.
“Students will not be involved as Covid-19 is still around.
“Instead, our committee members will participate in the fundraising,” he added.
Chua said this year’s target was quite low.
“In the past, the target would have been RM100,000 and above.
“I hope we can achieve our target in two weeks,” he said.
