LANANG in Sibu needs a new police station, bigger and better than the current one, says Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri.

The station was originally set up in 2004 in Jalan Lanang as a rest house for senior government officers.

“It is time to act on this matter and we will try to make an application for a new police station and a new building,” he said during a visit to the station.

Staff count had increased to 57 people which also justified a new station, he added.

He urged all personnel to improve on their integrity so that they could set an example for the community.

“This is important to ensure that the police station is a safe place and people feel safe to make any complaint,” added Comm Mohd Azman.

He also visited the police stations in Sibu Jaya and Sungai Merah, where he was briefed on the services, problems and suggestions on ways to improve the services and facilities there.

Comm Mohd Azman later attended iftar with Sungai Merah police personnel at its headquarters at Jalan Wawasan.

During the ceremony he presented Ramadan aid to 12 mualaf (new converts) of Sibu IPD, two widows, and two single mothers.

He also presented certificates of appreciation to police officers and personnel for their outstanding service to the public. – By ANDY CHUA
