RAHMAH vouchers worth RM40,000 were distributed by the Selangor government to visitors at Festival Usahawan Gempak for them to spend on Hari Raya Aidilfitri supplies.

The vouchers, ranging in value from RM5 to RM8, were distributed at an event held at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam.

The three-day event was organised by Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).

The voucher initiative by the state government is to subsidise the cost of buying necessities at the festival.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Fuziah Salleh, during her visit to the festival, thanked the Selangor government.

“The initiative is in line with the Federal Government’s efforts to uplift the needy and boost economic growth.

“Involvement of the state government and industry players is crucial to tackle the cost of living issue,” she said.

State housing, urban wellbeing and entrepreneur development committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the vouchers were also meant to uplift small and medium (SME) enterprises.

“It is hoped that these vouchers will help boost the sales of these entrepreneurs.

“The festival provided a platform for them to expand and market their brand to a wider audience,” she said.

A total of 150 local brands and 10 food trucks took part in the festival that operated from 10am to midnight daily.

Participating brands included SimplySiti, CK Rahim, Elrah Exclusive, Samu Gaiken, Inai Scarves and Absolut Chocolat.

The event also featured lucky draws with prizes worth up to RM20,000, including motorcycles and home appliances.

Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the festival achieved its target after recording more than 40,000 visitors.

He said that a similar event might be held for other festivals in future such as Chinese New Year.

Also present were KPDN deputy secretary-general (Consumers Empowerment) Datin Roszanina Wahab, KPDN senior director (Trade Distribution and Commerce) Datuk Rohaizi Bahari and Selangor KPDN director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey.
