Office workers who will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri used their lunch hour to do some last-minute shopping before returning to their hometowns.
They were spotted looking for clothes and other festive items at PKNS Complex and Plaza Alam Sentral in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Both shopping destinations saw quite a lot of foot traffic this week.
Among the shoppers was Siti Azlinda Mohd Ripin who buys Raya clothes at the complex every year, saying it had a wide range, good quality and affordable prices.
“Every year, it is a must for me to do my Raya shopping at PKNS Complex because I can get clothes that cost less than RM200,” she said.
Also finding affordable Raya items at the complex was Siti Nadiah Idris who lives nearby. She said it was an ideal place to shop for her family of four.
“The prices at the complex are affordable and there’s a wide range of booths here,” she said.
Auditors Asmat Anuar and Hilmi Imran Ahmad Ainuddin said Raya biscuits at PKNS Complex were reasonably priced, with one jar costing between RM20 and RM30.
“I decided to buy additional Raya biscuits for my parents and in-laws, but it is advisable to explore the various booths first to get the best bargain,” said Asmat.
Regular customer at Plaza Alam Sentral, Faeza Abdullah, chose to buy headscarves for herself and her three daughters as the price was within her budget.
“‘I often come here to buy headscarves as the quality is good.
“I prefer to shop here on weekdays as there are fewer people, which makes it easier for me to look around,” she added.
Vendors, however, said business had been slow this year with the majority of customers coming on weekends only.
Nurin Alisya Abdul Rashed, at the De Lagenda shop, said there was a decline in sales despite them maintaining the prices and increasing the quality of their clothes.
“Regulars come to our shop for quality materials, but we have observed a drop in visitors during weekdays and most people come on weekends only,” she said.
She attributed this year’s decrease in sales to people being more prudent in their spending.
“I believe last year’s sales received a boost from the disbursement of EPF (Employees Provident Fund) savings.”
Balqis Cookies seller Muhamad Shahzwan Mukh has been selling Raya biscuits during Ramadan at the complex for many years.
“The prices of the biscuits remain the same this year.
“For instance, the price for a jar of red velvet cookies is RM25,” he said.
