THE first week of school for the 2023/ 2024 academic year did not entail lessons for students for a change.

Instead, schools held programmes that were appropriate for new pupils entering Standard One and those entering Form One.

The first week was packed with fun-filled activities that included games, gotong-royong and other stimulating programmes.

The schools also carried out various activities to motivate students as they return to face-to-face lessons after many months of online classes.

Among the programmes were motivational workshops conducted by school counsellors as well as coaches and trainers.

Peter Soo, a licensed counsellor, was invited for motivational talks in four schools in Johor, namely SMK Taman Kluang Barat, SMK Tengku Aris Bendahara, SMK Jalan Kota Tinggi and SMK Seri Perdana.

His talks titled “Don’t give up!” was especially meaningful for Form Five students who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.

Soo encouraged them to press on in spite of challenges and difficulties facing them.

He likened their educational journey to running a marathon, where they just needed to finish the race.
