RESIDENTS living in the Petaling district have been urged to practise a healthier lifestyle to prevent heart ailments.

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Health and Environment Department director Dr Chitra Davi N. Vadivellu was dispensing health advice at a bubur lambuk distribution event at Laman MBPJ in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.

“Heart-related illness could be due to a poor diet. Some 80% of health-related issues come from our diet. Everything we eat must be in moderation, especially sweet desserts.

“We have many relatively young people who are dying from heart diseases. It is important for parents to inculcate good eating habits in their children.

“It is also good for health if we can achieve 10,000 walking steps a day,” Dr Chitra said, adding that stress was another factor.

The bubur lambuk distribution was a collaboration between MBPJ and Assunta Hospital.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said it was part of the city council’s initiatives to show care for the public, especially civil servants.

MBPJ officers and Assunta Hospital staff greeted motorists along Jalan Yong Shook Lin and distributed the items to them.

“We distributed the bubur lambuk at Laman MBPJ because many civil servants, like the police, firemen, nurses and also the council staff pass through the area after work,” said Azhan.

“We also distributed reusable food containers so that the public will rely less on plastic bags to take away food from bazaars and restaurants.

“A total of 500 food containers and 1,000 packs of bubur lambuk were given out.

“People were happy to receive these simple items. This is how we show gratitude towards the community, especially to the civil servants contributing to society,” he added.
