THE famous Terry Fox Fun Run is back – with the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur hosting it this year.
The event is set to take place on May 7 at 7am. It is open to people of all ages who can choose to run, jog or just walk.
It aims to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research Malaysia.
All participants are invited to complete the 5km route at their own pace.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Asia-Pacific regional marketing director Nelson Hilton said that anyone interested in joining the event could purchase a Terry Fox Run T-shirt via the hotel’s website for RM85, with 100% of the funds raised going directly to Cancer Research Malaysia.
“We are expecting about 5,000 participants for the run that will start at Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
“Terry Fox was a 22-year-old who lost his leg to bone cancer and became a national hero in Canada for his Marathon of Hope, a cross-country run he undertook to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
“Four Seasons founder Isadore Sharp was inspired by Terry’s courage and commitment to cancer research.
“Sharp worked closely with sponsors to organise the first- ever Terry Fox Run in 1981 and made a commitment to uphold Terry’s legacy.”
Hilton said the Terry Fox Run would take place at the same time as Kuala Lumpur’s car-free event the same Sunday, which adds to the excitement of the event.
Although participants can register online, latecomers are still welcome to register on the day itself.
Hilton revealed that Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds leaked the event’s T-shirt design that was designed by the celebrity himself.
“The design should not have been released until May 1, but because Reynolds let it slip on Twitter, we were given the green light to release it earlier.
“The High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia will be present at the event,” said Hilton.
