KLANG Municipal Council (MPK) expects to receive a RM2mil Federal Government allocation to upgrade facilities at Pulau Ketam in Port Klang, Selangor.

Council president Noraini Roslan said Selangor local government, public transportation and new village development committee chairman Ng Sze Han visited the island on April 6 to check on the infrastructure that needed upgrading there.

It is learnt that MPK planned to use the funds to repair dilapidated or worn-out structures such as walkways.

“The upgrades are necessary as Pulau Ketam is a popular tourist destination in the Klang district.

“MPK is in the midst of preparing a bill of quantities for the infrastructure upgrades,” said Noraini, expecting to receive the allocation from the Local Government Development Ministry through Ng’s office.

She said this during MPK’s full board meeting that was live-streamed online.

Noraini also announced the merger of some departments and placement of heads and officers effective May 1.

“The Valuation Department and Property Management Department will be merged to become a single department called the Valuation and Property Management Department, to be headed by Afizah Ahmad.

“This merger will also see the redesignations of some officers, such as Haslinda Rantam as the department’s deputy director,” she added.

Noraini also said MPK would have a parking compound reduction campaign next month in conjunction with Labour Day.

The campaign would run from May 1 to 31, she said.

“It offers an opportunity for those with parking compound arrears to settle them at a special rate of RM15 before stricter action is taken against them, including court prosecution.

“However, this offer is not extended to the offence of parking in a bay reserved for the disabled and the offence of obstructing public space or parking bays,” she said.

Meanwhile, Noraini welcomed the public to send their entries for a competition to create a logo and flag for the council, in conjunction with MPK’s upgrade to city status scheduled later this year.

It offers RM2,000 cash for the winner and nine consolation prizes of RM200 each.

Submission deadline is May 8 at 5pm.
