Auxiliary police to ensure LRT walkways free of obstructions

StarMetro’s report on April 28.

PRASARANA Malaysia Bhd is mobilising auxiliary police to conduct checks and ensure that the walkway leading to Masjid Jamek LRT station is free from illegal traders.

On April 28, StarMetro had highlighted how commuters faced obstacles because of traders operating near the staircase on the side leading towards Jalan Melayu.

The report stated that the traders would pick up their things and leave every time they see an enforcement officer from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) or staff from the LRT station.

However, once the officers leave the area, they would resume trading illegally at the site, obstructing pedestrians.

In a statement, Prasarana said auxiliary police, assisted by station supervisors, did not find any petty traders operating in the vicinity on April 29.

“Nonetheless, Prasarana will continue to deploy auxiliary police to conduct regular checks on spots highlighted by StarMetro as well as other areas around its stations.

“Prasarana will also work with DBKL and the police to ensure safety of passengers,” the statement said.
