A SCAMMER created a fake Facebook account using the name of a trainee working in the office of Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat and also an email address almost similar to his service centre’s.
Chua said the fake account with the email address khidmatrawang.esport@gmail.com was used to ask for a quotation and subsequently an order was placed for five gaming laptops from IP Maker Solution.
Chua’s service centre’s email address is khidmatrawang@gmail.com
“I only discovered what had happened when a representative from IP Maker Solution, Yee Ti Choon, came to my service centre, informing me about the laptops they purchased,” he said at a press conference.
He said the scammer had also copied his office’s stamp and used it in the email to order the laptops from the company.
The assemblyman lodged a report at the Rawang police station on the same day after learning about the scam.
He said he called for the press conference to alert other people and prevent them from falling for this scam.
IP Maker Solution had sourced for and acquired the five laptops at a cost of RM17,495, equipped with the features specified by the scammer who had claimed the devices were to be used in a competition.
Yee said he became suspicious when the scammer asked him to send the laptops via p-hailing service even though the company was located just a few doors away from Chua’s service centre, which is at Rawang Mutiara Business Centre in Rawang, Selangor.
Yee, who was also present at the press conference, said the scammer was still communicating with him.
“I am now left with these five laptops that we bought based on an order by the scammer who duped us into believing he was from the Rawang assemblyman’s office,” he said.
