MORE than 10,000 visitors are expected at Seck Kia Eenh Temple in Kampung Chetti, Jalan Gajah Berang, Melaka, for the Wesak Day celebration.
Melaka Buddhist Association Wesak Day Celebration Committee chairman Cedric Tan said a float procession would be held for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic started.
“A total of 15 decorated floats will join the 6km-long procession,” he said at a press conference at Wisma Seck Kia Eenh in Melaka.
A total of 2,400 participants from 15 Buddhist associations in Melaka will be involved.
The procession will pass through 11 areas including Jalan Gajah Berang, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Tun Ali, Jalan Tun Mutahir, Lorong Hang Jebat and Jalan Tengkera.
Among the activities planned are a prayer ceremony, candlelight event, distribution of flowers and a lion dance by Gao Feng Lion and Dragon Dance Cultural Association.
Tan said pindacara (giving food as alms) would also be held. About 600 food packages will be distributed to the poor around the city centre to mark the closing of the Wesak celebration.
The Melaka Chetti community will also attend the celebration and give a dance performance at Seck Kia Eenh Temple.
“After the Wesak celebration, we will hold a blood donation and dental care campaign on May 14 and 21.
“Everyone is invited,” said Tan. – Bernama
