THE old Seri Kembangan market site has now turned into an illegal dumping ground. The foul smell from the waste is a bane to the residents and business owners nearby.
The temporary shift of traders to the new location on Jalan SK6/1 was for just three weeks but the old market was filled with trash. The problem was brought to the attention of the authorities but the issue still persists, said Seri Kembangan MCA public complaints bureau chief Wong Jung Lik.
"The smell is unbearable and this has led to poor business to nearby restaurants and other grocery businesses," he said.
"They have suffered a 50% drop in customers because people don’t want to come here.
"Residents and traders are worried about the situation and hope there will not be a disease outbreak due to the rodent and fly infestation here.
"The drainage system is in deplorable condition and it could lead to mosquitoes breeding there too," he said.
He added that Jalan SK 10/3 and Jalan SK10/5 near the old market have been turned into another dumping ground.
Wong said elected representatives have a duty to check on these matters and act quickly as public cleanliness is of utmost priority.
"This place has to be cleared immediately and the relevant parties must attend to the matter soon," he said.
