BUNDS in Kampung Lanchong Jaya, Taman Alam Indah and Kampung Baru Hicom in Shah Alam, Selangor, located along Sungai Klang have been widened and raised by 3m to prevent flooding during torrential rains and high tides.

Shah Alam city councillor Saribanon Saibon said the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had stated that the bunds were reinforced with iron piles during the upgrading last year.

Kampung Lanchong Jaya (Section 28), Taman Alam Indah (Section 33) and Kampung Baru Hicom (Section 26) are among areas in Shah Alam badly affected by major floods in December 2021, which led to the evacuation of a large number of residents.

Saribanon, who is also Residents Representative Council (MPP) Zone 10 chairman, said the bunds constructed were strong and have been able to hold back high volumes of water,” she said.

Saribanon said this during MPP Zone 10 Raya open house at MBSA Kenanga Multipurpose Hall in Section 28, Shah Alam.

The event was attended by some 900 families from Section 26, 27, 28 and 33A under the MPP Zone 10.

MBSA Community Development Department director Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said: “We must encourage events like this to strengthen the bond among all races.”
