TRAFFIC congestion in front of SMK Deshon in Sibu, Sarawak, is a thing of the past following the completion of four parking lots.
The new parking lots have two entrances and exits, which are next to the school gate and at the alleys nearby.
State Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Michael Tiang, who inspected the project, said the new parking spaces would help ease traffic congestion during rush hour.
“The parents will find it convenient to drive their children to school and pick them up afterwards,” he said.
The new parking spaces are expected to reduce the after-school traffic chaos that had been impacting neighbouring businesses.
In addition, students now have a safe waiting space after school and there are more parking bays for local businesses.
“The project area was originally scheduled to be tarred on Feb 7 but there was only one entrance and exit at that time.
“So another entrance and exit was created,” said Tiang.
This project was carried out under the rural transformation programme at a cost of RM175,000. Work started on Oct 9 last year.
