THE low power voltage supply in areas around Kuala Kurau is due to the increasing number of residents and higher usage.
Perak infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said to address the issue, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) would carry out both short and long-term solutions.
“The state has informed TNB that the low supply is happening at Kampung Nelayan, Parit Sungai Burung in Tanjung Piandang and other nearby areas.
“TNB’s planning unit proposed several short-term solutions such as upgrading the low voltage supply system at Parit Sungai Burung, which involves a new supplier box and low voltage underground cable resistance,” Mohammad Nizar said in reply to a question from Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri (PN-Kuala Kurau).
Mohammad Nizar said based on TNB’s proposal, the short-term solution cost RM154,050.50
“For this short-term solution, the challenge is to get permission for laying cables on what may be private-owned land or state Public Works Department (JKR) land.
“For the long-term solution, TNB plans to set up a mini main distribution substation (MPPU) with a capacity of five Mega Volt Amp (MVA) worth RM4.3mil at Tanjung Piandang, called ‘MPPU Tanjung Piandang’.
“The MPPU will include the installation of transformers with a capacity of five MVA, pole planting and cable resistance, among others,” he said.
In a supplementary question, Abdul Yunus asked why there were still TNB poles located in the middle of the street in Kuala Kurau.
“These poles are now in the middle of the street because the street has been widened.
“I went to these areas with TNB’s representative and sent a letter last year. Yet nothing has been done,” he said.
Mohammad Nizar said he would check with JKR and the Darul Ridzuan Corridor Utility unit to rectify the matter as soon as possible.
