RESIDENTS in a neighbourhood in Kuantan are fed up with the disturbance they are experiencing since a house in the area has been converted into a restaurant.
A resident, who declined to be named, said the house on Lorong Seri Kuantan 25, which started operating as a restaurant in January, had been a source of distress for his family.
“It is very noisy and as they operate past midnight, the noise keeps my family up till late at night. Then when the restaurant closes, there is the noise from all the clean-up work.
“I have school-going children and they are not able to sleep at all until 3am,” he said.
The resident said the noise from the large number of patrons as well as the cacophony of clanging cooking utensils disturbed his family’s peace.
“I really don’t think opening a restaurant in a housing area is suitable. A home is meant to be the place for rest and relaxation but my family is not getting that at all,” said the resident.
He was also concerned with pest infestation as well as the restaurant being a fire hazard.
Another resident said the restaurant patrons would frequently park their vehicles outside his house, encroaching into his property.
“The restaurant operator cannot expect me to come out each time to tell their customers to move their vehicles,” he said in frustration.
Other residents complained about the smell from the restaurant permeating the neighbourhood.
When contacted, Kuantan City Council public and corporate relations section chief Norkamawati Kamal said an investigation had been opened based on the restaurant’s misuse of premises.
She said, however, the restaurant owner had promised to move out by the end of June and required some time to set up business at the new location.
