Funds given to upgrade streetlights in Muallim

A TOTAL of RM346,000 has been allocated to upgrade and maintain streetlights in Muallim.

Perak infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the annual allocation was given by the Malaysian Road Record Information System (Marris).

“As of May this year, RM120,445 has been spent on the streetlights under Tanjung Malim District Council (MDTM).

“The maintenance and upgrades are conducted by Puncak Emas Infra Sdn Bhd,” he said when replying to a question from Salina Samsudin (BN-Behrang) on the allocations and maintenance of the lights to prevent road accidents at night in high-risk areas.

Mohammad Nizar said that apart from Marris, they were working with Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW) which has its own allocation for road and lights maintenance works in areas that were not under MDTM.

“I dismiss claims that Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) didn’t do their job to fix the streetlights.”

He said the state held meetings with KKDW and TNB last year about the repairs and maintenance works.

“As of April 30, we have yet to receive any approval from KKDW.

“TNB needs the ministry’s approval before starting work.”
