KLANG Municipal Council’s (MPK) Smart City 2030 Action Plan is people-centric.
Its president Noraini Roslan, who launched the action plan, said MPK had taken into consideration the people’s views in drawing up strategies.
“Our plan involves engagement sessions with the people, data collection, public surveys, meetings and analyses to obtain suggestions for comprehensive smart city planning,” she said at the council’s full board meeting.
MPK collaborated with the Federal Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia) to draw up the action plan.
“MPK will focus on six main areas – economic digitalisation; digital community and public involvement; talented human capital and experience; smart solution and innovation; sustainability and quality of life as well as digital infrastructure.”
Noraini said Klang as a future smart city would use data and technology to improve daily lives.
“More efficient services will be introduced. The transition to a smart city will require seamless coordination among stakeholders.
“The work will be carried out in phases over seven years.”
MPK aims to use the action plan as a guide for government agencies in planning and implementing development towards achieving the Klang Smart City vision by 2030.
On another issue, Noraini said flooding in Taman Melawis is being addressed through mitigation work using wider U-shape concrete culverts.
“Work on the drainage upgrade is at 70% and is expected to be completed in August.”
She said the Drainage and Irrigation Department would start soon on the diversion culvert that involved micro-tunnelling to help channel rainwater into Sungai Klang.
High-capacity pumps are also slated to be installed at the sluice gates along Jalan Tepi Sungai.
On May 17, several houses in Taman Melawis were flooded.
Separately, Noraini reminded residents that MPK’s mobile service for the payment of assessment tax would be available from 9am to 1pm every weekend in June.
The van will be parked in Taman Klang Perdana on June 3 and 4 in conjunction with a community wellbeing programme being held there.
On June 17 and 18, it will be in front of CSM hardware store in Bandar Bukit Raja.
On June 24 and 25, the van will be parked near Maybank along Jalan Raja Hassan, Klang.
