UPGRADING works at Anjung Selera in Laman Tasik Pandan and Gerai Jalan Biru in the Johor capital are expected to be completed next year.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said the Local Government Development Ministry had allocated RM1.3mil for the works.

“The ministry channelled RM800,000 to upgrade Anjung Selera food court at Laman Tasik Pandan.

“The remaining RM500,000 is to upgrade 14 stalls at Gerai Jalan Biru.

“The project is now in the tendering process and is expected to be completed within 10 months,” he said when contacted by StarMetro.

The upgrading work at Anjung Selera will include renovating five food stalls, the dining area and public restrooms besides changing the roof, installing solar panels as well as improving the piping and wiring.

“We will also place a centralised grease trap at Anjung Selera, besides improving the drainage system,” he said.

He added that the parking lot would be upgraded too.

Mohd Noorazam said that similar works would be done at Gerai Jalan Biru.

Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the ministry allocated RM23mil to all 16 local councils in Johor to upgrade the infrastructure in their areas.

“The allocation was given according to a performance- based budget principle, to reduce any risk of waste in government spending,” he said.

Of the sum, RM8.5mil was for maintaining 28 flood retention ponds.

“Ten of the ponds are in Muar, six in Kota Tinggi, four in Mersing, two in Batu Pahat, two in Kulai, and one each in Johor Baru, Iskandar Puteri, Segamat and Pengerang,” said Akmal Nasrullah.
