INDUSTRY leaders and investors were honoured at the Selangor Investors Appreciation Awards by Selangor government and Invest Selangor Bhd.
About 1,500 guests attended the formal event at Sunway Resort Hotel in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, that was held to recognise the contributions of individuals, companies and organisations towards the state’s economic growth and development.
The 2019-2022 award winners were selected based on their manufacturing projects approved by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) in Selangor.
Some of the award categories were: Highest Investment in Selangor by a Domestic Company, Highest Investment in Selangor by a Foreign Company, Most Preferred Investment Location in Selangor by Local Authority and Most Preferred Investment Location in Selangor by Local District.
The Special Achievement Award for Local Company in Selangor was presented to Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd while the Special Achievement Award for Multinational Company in Selangor went to Nippon Electric Glass (M) Sdn Bhd.
The event also honoured Selangor industry and trade executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the awards were a tribute to the extraordinary drive, talents and determination of investors and workers in Selangor.
“The unwavering commitment of the public, both from within and outside Selangor, to invest in the state has played a pivotal role in Selangor’s remarkable contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“In 2021, Selangor’s economic activities propelled it to contribute 24.8% to Malaysia’s GDP, a figure that undoubtedly positioned the state as a formidable economic powerhouse.
“The Selangor government under this administration fully acknowledges the threats posed by climate change, the complications arising from increased urbanisation.
“Public transportation and decent, affordable housing will need sustainable solutions.
“These challenges represent massive opportunities to progress,” said the Mentri Besar.
“New industries and increased investment by government and the private sector will pave the way for a new breed of small- and medium-enterprises in these sectors.
“New technology will provide increased job opportunities for entrepreneurs, merchants and farmers in higher technology for smart agriculture production.
“Importantly, it provides better opportunities for women in the workplace,” said Amirudin.
Teng said these significant investments year on year, despite the global health and economic challenges, validated Selangor’s appeal to both domestic and foreign investors, created job opportunities that fuelled economic growth, and bolstered key industries.
“This state government will continue to advocate business-friendly policies and to assist in facilitating investment project implementations,” he said.
