Entrepreneurs in Klang's Little India should submit their proposal for better parking amenities through the authorities, says Klang MP V. Ganabatirau.
“Associations and people who want something to be done for Klang town must submit their proposal through the right channel," he said, adding that the stakeholders made their first complaints via the media.
"It must be done properly – the proposal must be made through Klang Municipal Council (MPK), the state assemblyman’s office, zone councillor or the MP’s office,” he said.
On June 2, StarMetro reported that the Klang entrepreneurs association's president Charles Manickam was proposing that a multi-level carpark be built on a vacant land off Jalan Tengku Kelana.
He complained that insufficient parking in the area had led to indiscriminate parking, which caused traffic congestion and increased accidents.
Charles had suggested that a five-storey carpark be built on vacant government land sandwiched between Lorong Tingkat and Jalan Pegawai.
It was suggested that MPK acquire the land from the Federal Government for that purpose.
“I have not received any proposal on the multi-level carpark,” said Ganabatirau.
“Be fair to all the government agencies and representatives. Submit the proposal. Point out the suggested site in Jalan Tengku Kelana for such amenities,” he added.
MPK Corporate Communica-tions Department director Norfiza Mahfiz told StarMetro that parking in non-designated areas saw over 100 cars a month being towed away from Little India.
Last year, 1,796 cars were towed away, among them 762 along Jalan Tengku Kelana, 369 from Jalan Mohet, 249 in Jalan Dato Hamzah and 215 in Jalan Tengku Diaudin, she said.
"From January until May this year, 900 cars were towed away from the same areas.
"For each car towed by the local council, the owner is served with a compound of RM300 and a towing fee of RM100."
