Charm of Selangor’s new villages

Kampung Asam Kumbang, Hulu Selangor, has a colourful culture waiting to be explored

DISCOVER the heart and soul of Malaysia’s unique new villages at a photography exhibition called “Selangor New Village-ing: Revolution Through Vision” at Level 2 of Gateway@KLIA2, located behind the ERL Station.

Originally established as relocation settlements during the Malayan Emergency, the new villages have blossomed into vibrant communities that embody a distinct way of life.

Selangor is home to 77 new villages spread across nine districts.

They consist of 42 traditional villages, 19 fishing villages and 16 reorganised communities.

Under the vision of state exco member Ng Sze Han, the Selangor New Village Development Committee has endeavoured to promote the beauty, diversity and potential of these extraordinary villages.

The exhibition highlights the new villages’ historical attractions, vibrant culture, culinary delights and agricultural wonders.

Ng said, “New villages offer a lifestyle that city dwellers yearn for – fresh air, space, and close-knit communities.

“It is essential to recognise the intrinsic value of these settlements and continue to promote them, ensuring their ongoing development.”

Through a collection of stunning never-before-seen imagery, this exhibition aims to help inspire sustainable development that still preserves the new villages’ valuable heritage.

This photography exhibition will be held until June 20 at the arrival hall of the KL International Airport Terminal 2.

This will enable a wide audience of international and Malaysian travellers to appreciate the uniqueness of the new villages.

Ng believes the mesmerising photographs will encourage more people to visit the new villages and experience the hospitality of the residents.

“Let us protect these remarkable and splendid villages to ensure a brighter future for the generations to come,” he said.
