DATUK Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail commended Tung Shin Hospital for providing a balanced integration of modern and traditional Chinese medicine services in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
The Bandar Tun Razak MP visited the hospital in Kuala Lumpur as part of her efforts to understand the operation of various hospitals in Malaysia.
“It is important for qualified medical practitioners to consider the pros, cons and potential side effects associated with different therapies,” she said.
During her visit, Tung Shin Hospital unveiled a range of new facilities to further enhance their commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community.
Tung Shin Hospital deputy president Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok said that every sen earned by the hospital was reinvested to improve the hospital’s facilities, upgrade medical equipment and expand its healthcare services.
“Tung Shin Hospital operates a free clinic within its premises as well as a mobile clinic that reaches various villages, to ensure access to healthcare for those in need.
“The hospital runs on a tight budget, making any form of assistance, be it from the government or public donations, invaluable to our ongoing mission,” said Teo.
A notable addition is the Medical Rehabilitation Unit, which has evolved from a mere physiotherapy centre into a comprehensive facility offering occupational therapy, speech and swallowing therapy as well as counselling.
The hospital’s management said this expansion allowed Tung Shin to provide a holistic approach to rehabilitation, addressing various aspects of patients’ well-being beyond physical therapy alone.
Additionally, a dedicated Pediatric Gym has been established to provide specialised care and exercises tailored for younger patients.
In line with their commitment to inclusivity, Tung Shin Hospital has introduced an Integrated Sensory Room, specifically designed to assist children with cognitive and behavioral challenges, including Down Syndrome, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
In addition to the rehabilitation facilities, Tung Shin Hospital has opened an Acupuncture Specialist Centre catering to those seeking traditional Chinese medicine services.
The centre has 78 treatment beds.
