A FOOTBALL field in Section 18, Shah Alam in Selangor, underwent an upgrade costing over half-a-million ringgit as part of Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) efforts to improve the quality of recreational facilities for the community.
The upgrade of the field along Jalan Rumbia Dua 18/19B cost RM526,536.
Of that amount, RM200,000 came from Selangor Economic Planning Unit while the remaining allocation was from MBSA.
“The upgrade included repairing the entire 12,000sq m surface area, adding a football field subsoil pipe system, building a 464m-long pedestrian walkway, building a 5m x 5m concrete hut and installing eight concrete benches,” MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division head Shahrin Ahmad said in a statement.
“Other works included repairing the field’s barrier post and repainting the field’s lines.
“We hope that this football field upgrading project will encourage the local community’s participation in sports and recreational activities while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” he added.
Present at the unveiling of the upgraded football field were Selangor housing, urban wellbeing and entrepreneur development committee chairman Rodziah Ismail, Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof, MBSA operations deputy secretary and Landscape Department director Mohd Yunus Suri as well as MBSA councillors.
Shahrin said there were 96 football fields, four synthetic grass fields and one stadium football field in Stadium Paya Jaras under MBSA’s purview.
These fields are overseen by the council’s Landscape Department.
The fields are open for public use and can be rented for football matches.
