THE contra-flow along Jalan Maharajalela heading toward Jalan Cheras will be extended to ease traffic jams, says the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
The contra-flow will now start from Jalan Maharajalela (near Sekolah Menengah Tsun Jin) until the Bulatan Cheras interchange, instead of the Jalan Cheras entrance.
This is one of the three contra-flow routes that will be implemented following Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s instruction to mitigate traffic congestion during peak hours.
DBKL executive director (Planning) Datuk Sulaiman Mohamed said in a statement that another contra-flow will be implemented along Jalan Ampang and Jalan Tun Razak.
“The contra-flow will cater to buses from 6am to 9am so they will be unaffected by the traffic jam.
“This helps in their efficiency and encourages the public to take transport,” he said.
Sulaiman said it will install notice boards on the implementation of the contra-flows as well as utilise the Variable Message Signboards (VMS) located in Kuala Lumpur.
“DBKL will also engage with other agencies such as the police, Miros and Prasarana.”
