THE Dignity for Children Foundation is the recipient of the National Press Club (NPC)-Macrokiosk Muhibbah Award for the month of June.
They were recognised for their efforts to provide holistic care and education to underprivileged people for over 25 years.
The establishment of the Foundation was the result of Reverend Elisha Satvinder and his wife Petrina Shee Shiang Fei’s desire to help underprivileged children.
To date, the organisation has helped over 15,000 children from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, offering them a pathway to a better future.
Shee, who is also co-founder and chief executive officer of the Foundation, expressed their gratitude for the recognition and thanked NPC and Macrokiosk.
“We began with a classroom of only 20 students on a single floor at Sentul Raya Boulevard.
“Today, we accommodate over 2,300 children aged between two and 18, equipping them with education and essential skills for their futures.
“We strongly hold the belief that education has the power to transform the lives of these children, and we advocate for equal educational opportunities for every child.
“This award will definitely inspire us to keep going, persevere and tackle the challenges involved in managing and caring for the children,” she said.
Applauding the achievement, NPC president Datuk Ahirudin Attan said that he believed the foundation embodies the spirit of muhibbah or harmony.
“The work and dedication required in helping these children secure a brighter future over the course of 25 years would not have been easy.
“The foundation has been helping children not just from our country but also foreign nationals, exactly the kind of muhibbah spirit that we set out to recognise and encourage,” he said at the award ceremony in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.
Also present at the event were Macrokiosk CEO Datuk Kenny Goh and chief operating officer Datuk Henry Goh.
The NPC-Macrokiosk Muhibbah Award is a monthly event where recipients are selected by a rotating panel comprising media editors and senior journalists.
The winner receives RM2,000 and vouchers from Tealive, Jaya Grocer and natural yoghurt brand llaollao.
The award’s criteria specify that anyone who walks the extra mile for any person, cause, organisation or even plants and animals in the most altruistic sense, can be considered for nomination.
Winners also can be from any nationality as long as they are dedicated to helping others without seeking personal gain.
