Malaysia tops Asia-Pacific debating championship in Jakarta

IN A resounding victory that showcased their exceptional oratory skills and critical thinking, the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia English debating team secured the championship title at the JCI Asia-Pacific Conference held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The team’s performance solidified Malaysia’s reputation as a powerhouse in the debating world.

The JCI Asia-Pacific Conference drew together talented debaters from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The Malaysia team comprised Deevagaran Naidu Baskaran from JCI Kulim, Tan Lik Wei from JCI Petaling Jaya and John Ung Soon Hock from JCI Tanjung Bunga.

They impressed with their eloquence, humour, persuasive arguments and ability to think on their feet.

The team’s skills were put to the test against opponents from Cambodia, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

With each round, the Malaysian team navigated complex topics, including socio-political, technological and environmental.

As champions, the JCI Malaysia team will now set their sights on the JCI World Congress, which is set to be held in Switzerland from Nov 14 to 18 this year.
