KNOWN for serving Sri Lankan cuisine, Yarl Restaurants is introducing diners to the flavours of the Jaffna peninsula.
“The Jaffna Experience” is a set dinner menu that enables diners to indulge in an array of dishes that deliver the rich flavours Jaffna is renowned for.
The culinary voyage begins with a fish cutlet of mackerel coated with breadcrumbs and deep-fried.
It is served with a traditional rasam prepared using tamarind juice, tomatoes, herbs and spices.
Either plain steamed rice or delicate idiyappam, also known as string hoppers, will bring out the harmonious flavours of the Beetroot Paal Curry, which is cooked with chopped beetroot, aromatic onions and fresh coconut milk.
Also on the menu is Bittergourd Poriyal, a dish of crispy-fried bittergourd tossed in tempered spices, and the hearty Mutton Varuval where tender mutton cuts are roasted with Sri Lankan spices.
The savoury Chicken Peratal has chicken slow-cooked in a medley of spices and is also part of the set.
Accompanying these dishes are a series of condiments.
The flavoursome Iddi Sambol is prepared with raw coconut pounded with sweet shallots and chilli, while the creamy plain sodhi is a yellow coconut milk stew with tomatoes. Pappadam and chilli add crunch and zest to the meal.
Ending this gastronomic journey is the indulgent sweet appam, a traditional dessert.
“We are thrilled to present ‘The Jaffna Experience’ menu,” said The Cinnamon Group chief executive officer and founder Abbi Kanthasamy.
“At Yarl Restaurants, we are dedicated to showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the Jaffna peninsula, and this menu allows us to do just that.
“Each dish has been crafted to give our patrons an authentic and unforgettable dining experience,” added Abbi.
Priced at RM69 for two, “The Jaffna Experience” is available at the chain’s Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Hartamas, Heritage Row, Ampang and Brickfields outlets.
