SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) will enforce the two-hour parking system in five commercial centres in the Selangor capital starting July 3.

Its implementation involves 67 bays in Section 9, Section 15, Section 25, Section 31 and Section U13.

The locations are as follows: Jalan Tengku Ampuan Zabedah D 9/D, Section 9 (six bays), Jalan Pahat F 15/F, Section 15 (six bays), Jalan Sepadu B 25/B, Section 25, Taman Sri Muda (six bays), Jalan Anggerik Vanilla N 31/N, Section 31, Kota Kemuning (18 bays), Jalan Prima R U13/R, Section U13, Setia Alam (24 bays) and Jalan Prima F U13/F, Section U13, Setia Alam (seven bays).

The parking rate for the orange-painted bays designated under the system is RM1.20 for every hour, up to a maximum of two hours.

There will be a cooling-off period of an hour before motorists are allowed to re-park at any two-hour parking bays.

Monthly parking passes cannot be used for these bays.

“The implementation is in line with the gazettement of the Road Transport Order (Parking Space Allocation) MBSA (Amendment) 2023 for Two-Hour Parking,” said MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division in a media statement.

“For vehicles that are parked in the two-hour parking bays, no compound reduction will be given for offences such as not paying parking fees, exceeding the time limit or paying the wrong parking fee.

“The compound rate ranges between RM30 and RM100 based on the compound date.”

MBSA added that motorists could use apps such as Smart Selangor Parking and Flexi Parking to make payment.

Other app payment options include GoPay, Jom Parking, Touch n Go and Setel (subject to integration by the app vendors).

The payment hours are from 8am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays).

Several local councils in Selangor have already implemented a two-hour system, or hot zone parking, in certain sections of busy commercial areas to free up parking space in high-traffic streets, particularly those near banks.

Subang Jaya City Council introduced the system in six commercial centres in September 2022.

This year, Petaling Jaya City Council implemented it in Section 52, Kajang Municipal Council in Jalan Tun Abdul Aziz and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council in Jalan Memanda.
