THOSE keen on exploring the wild side of Kota Tinggi, Johor, can check out the special tourism packages designed to showcase the district’s many attractions.

Kota Tinggi Tourist Informa-tion Centre operations manager Muhamad Zakirhussin Md Din said the “kampung experience” packages give visitors a chance to see what traditional village life in Kota Tinggi is like.

“They can see the wonders of nature like the wild buffaloes of Kampung Lukut, which is a village not far from Panti Forest Reserve.”

He said the wild buffaloes usually travelled in large herds and grazed in empty fields near Kampung Lukut.

He added that the wild buffaloes helped keep the grass in the Kampung Lukut fields short.

Visitors can also observe from up close, the Malayan porcupine that is being bred at a farm near Kampung Temenin Baru.

“The centre will provide transportation for visitors to see the porcupines and other interesting places in these villages,” said Muhamad Zakirhussin.

He said other than village tours, visitors could take a river cruise along Sungai Johor.

He further said that the centre was working closely with local fishermen to provide the river cruise.

“There are two boat tours at present: one is from 4pm to 6.30pm which allows visitors to enjoy the sunset.

“The other tour is from 7.30pm to 9pm where they will be taken to the mangrove sites to see fireflies along the river,” he added.

The ecotourism packages have been well-received by both domestic and foreign tourists.

Muhamad Zakirhussin said most of the domestic tourists were city dwellers who wanted to experience nature.

“We also get tourists from countries such as South Africa, Australia, Italy and the Philippines.

“Due to the positive feedback we have received, we hope to add other interesting locations that Kota Tinggi has to offer,” he said.
