VISITORS to Legoland Malaysia Resort in Johor can look forward to a new and improved Miniland that highlights the best of the country’s attractions under one roof.

According to the resort’s divisional director CS Lim, 126 built-to-scale Lego models depicting the country’s landscape, architecture and culture will be launched by August at the theme park.

“It will take us about two months to complete the models using 1.38 million Lego bricks.

“Guests can expect to experience unique heritage sites such as the cultural atmosphere in Kota Baru, Kelantan, the landscapes of Mulu Caves in Sarawak and the hustle and bustle of George Town in Penang,” he said during a media preview of the upcoming attraction.

Lim said the project, dubbed Miniland Amazing Malaysia, would offer interactive experiences and action-packed animations throughout the dedicated area of 381sq metres.

“We also hope to spark nostalgic memories for visitors with the new models where some of these scenes could have come right out of their childhood days, like catching stage performances at Melaka’s Jonker Walk, a late-night mamak hangout session and playing sepak takraw with the neighbourhood kids.

“This is in line with our aim of always providing something new at Legoland Malaysia Resort aside from our usual annual celebrations and events.

“In March, we launched new shades over Miniland to keep guests cool. In our upcoming plans is a new themed room concept at our hotel.

“We have also lined up some investments and plans in the next few years to refresh and create new experiences for visitors,” he added.

Lim said that when the resort reopened last year, there were many domestic and Singaporean visitors whereas this year, they have hosted visitors from the Philippines, Australia and South Korea.

“Looking at tourism trends, next year should be even better,” he said.

Scott O’Neil, the chief executive officer of Merlin Entertainments which is the resort’s operator, said global trends for tourism would have a positive impact on the region’s post Covid-19 recovery.

“North America and Europe have shown quick recovery with international travel going back to normal, and we are expecting Asia-Pacific to come back next year.

“What we learned from the pandemic is that we need each other and the connection.

“The world shifted from the economy of things to an economy of experiences, so I think theme parks are still a good place for memory-making and for families to forget the stresses of life and just have fun,” he added.
