AFTER a two-month delay, the flyover from Jalan Maarof heading towards Jalan Semantan in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, has finally reopened.

The 1.34km three-lane flyover was closed on Oct 29 last year to facilitate upgrading works and was supposed to reopen in May.

A check by StarMetro on the first day of operation on July 1 found two out of three lanes were accessible to motorists.

An exit ramp from the right lane heading towards Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT station was also operational. (See map)

The leftmost lane was still closed for construction. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), in a StarMetro report on June 13, had said the left lane would be opened in December.

The upgrading works were undertaken by DBKL contractors.

Traffic barriers can still be seen lining certain spots on the flyover.

Bangsar resident Datuk M. Ali, when contacted, urged the relevant parties to expedite the site clean-up.

He said the drainage there was filled with debris and needed to be cleared to prevent water runoff during downpours.

“Reinforced walls need to be built at sharp bends on the flyover to ensure safety of motorists,” he added.

Motorist Hariz Rahman said a convex mirror should be installed at the exit ramp heading into Jalan Maarof.

“It is hard to see vehicles coming from the left when merging. This can cause an accident,” he said, adding that more streetlighting was also needed.

Previously, motorists from Petaling Jaya needed to make a U-turn before the flyover to head towards Jalan Maarof.

The U-turn has been removed.

Now, motorists must go up the flyover before taking the exit heading towards Jalan Maarof.

Sprint Highway, in a StarMetro report on March 22, said this change was meant to ensure smoother traffic flow in the area.
