PANTAI Morib has been reopened to the public after a major clean-up and completion of repair works following a thunderstorm last month.
The beach had been closed since June 15 due to the thunderstorm a day earlier that had damaged property and trees in the vicinity.
In a statement on Tuesday (July 4), the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) said a total of 65 fallen trees had been cleared and clean-up work at the Sri Pantai Bungalow area was ongoing.
“Some tree stumps could not be removed entirely as it may damage existing infrastructure such as drains and walkways. However, it will not cause any disturbance.
“To replace the felled trees, a total of 22 trees have been planted for a start.
“Damaged facilities such as toilets, kiosks and stalls have been repaired. Rewiring and roof repairs on stalls were also carried out," it said.
However, MPKL said the streetlights along the beach were still under repair but two high mast lights that were not damaged in the thunderstorm were functional.
“Affected traders can reopen their businesses as usual. Traders in kiosks can operate under 3m x 3m tents temporarily. Damaged rubbish bins have been repaired,” it said.
MPKL would also re-evaluate the repair and rehabilitation costs and apply for additional funds from relevant agencies such as the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to cover the expenses, it added.
The beach was opened to the public from Monday (July 3).
