EMPLOYEES of UD Trucks Malaysia visited Rumah K.I.D.S in USJ, Subang Jaya, to donate items as well as bring cheer and awareness about road safety to the young residents.

The donations comprised 10 laptops, clothing, toys and groceries.

The team spent half a day at the home where they helped to set up the laptops besides conducting educational and fun activities for close to 30 children including word puzzles, colouring competition, a game of musical chairs, and awareness of road safety.

Hub Malaysia managing director Steve Hedouin said the charitable event themed “sharing is caring” was organised to support the home and encourage its young residents to pursue education.

He said it was also aimed at instilling a positive work culture through community services among its employees and share the company’s corporate purpose of creating a better life for people.

“I am proud that this event gave us an opportunity to help society not only as employees but also as individuals.

“We are especially delighted to donate the laptops to encourage the children to embrace computer literacy,” he added.

As a truck company, Hedouin said it was their responsibility to include road safety awareness in the activities for the children.

Formed in 1991, Rumah K.I.D.S is a shelter for abused, neglected and orphaned children who require care, guidance and support for a better life.

In the past 32 years, Rumah K.I.D.S has housed, fed and nurtured over 300 children ranging from as young as one year to teenagers and young adults.

Rumah K.I.D.S senior manager (fundraising, partnerships and public relations) David Jansen Nathan said: “Rumah K.I.D.S’ mission, apart from protecting the children from abuse and neglect, is to enable them to pursue formal education and realise their full potential.

“Through education, the children can lead more productive lives in the community.”

Every child who comes to Rumah K.I.D.S will be introduced to a new family where he or she develops friendship with other brothers and sisters in a healthy and safe environment, he added.

“Rumah K.I.D.S is committed to helping any of its children who have completed secondary school and who want to pursue tertiary education or a desired career path.

“As we are fully dependent on public donations, we hope that companies and individuals will help us give our young adults the opportunity they would otherwise be deprived of,” said David.
